Public sector organisations across the North East are coming together with suppliers this March to address one of the most significant contributors to organisational carbon emissions: the supply chain.

Taking place on 24th March 2026 at Newcastle Civic Centre, the North East Public Sector Sustainable & Social Value Supplier Event will bring together procurement professionals, sustainability leads, NHS Trusts, local authorities, and suppliers to explore practical approaches to delivering low-carbon, socially responsible supply chains.

Delivered in partnership with a range of high-profile regional organisations including NEPO, Newcastle City Council, Net Zero North East England, Northumbria University, Health Innovation Network North East and North Cumbria (HINENC), and NHS Trusts including Newcastle Hospitals, Northumbria Healthcare and Gateshead, alongside sustainability specialists Genee and SmartCarbon Ltd, the event will draw on a wealth of expertise from across the public and private sectors.

For many public sector and large organisations, the greatest contributor to their carbon footprint is not their buildings, fleet, or energy use, but the goods and services they procure. From medical equipment to outsourced services and everyday consumables, supply chains often represent the largest share of an organisation’s environmental impact, yet they remain one of the most difficult areas to monitor, measure, and manage effectively.

Across the region, public sector organisations are increasingly engaging with their suppliers to better understand and reduce the environmental impact of procurement activities. As expectations evolve, suppliers are increasingly being asked not only to demonstrate value for money and quality of service, but also how they are supporting wider environmental and social objectives.

The upcoming regional event reflects this growing emphasis on sustainable procurement and aims to provide a platform for procurement leads and suppliers to collaborate on the development of low-carbon supply chains.

As sustainability becomes increasingly embedded within procurement practices, collaboration between public sector organisations and their suppliers will be crucial. By working together to improve transparency and support organisations at every stage of the journey, the North East has an opportunity to build more resilient, low-carbon supply chains while continuing to support local businesses and communities.

The event will feature a dedicated Low Carbon Innovation Exhibition Zone, offering suppliers the opportunity to showcase sustainable products and services to public sector buyers, as well as opportunities to book one-to-one appointments with procurement and carbon experts to support organisations at every stage of their sustainability journey.

Sponsorship and exhibition opportunities are available for organisations looking to demonstrate leadership in sustainability and social value while engaging directly with public sector stakeholders.

The North East Public Sector Sustainable & Social Value Supplier Event is free to attend and open to both public sector organisations and suppliers.
