GENEE AND OUR TEAM
Genee is an environmental sustainability consultancy created to support organisations of all types and sizes become ready for a zero-carbon economy.
We do this by supporting organisations to reduce their environmental impact and realise the many benefits of integrating sustainability into business practices. As a social enterprise we use post operational profits to fund environmental and social impact.
The team believe using the national standard Investors in the Environment is a great way to achieve this and we are delighted to be the North East of England delivery partners.

Jo leads on genee’s environmental sustainability portfolio. She has worked in the environmental sector for over 20 years, leading regional projects with a focus on partnership working. She has an extensive network from running her own environmental consultancy for the past 14 years. This experience enables her to empathise with organisational aspirations to deliver sustainability whilst running the day-today operation. She is committed to demonstrating that positive environmental performance can positively impact an organisation’s bottom line.
‘My passion for the North East and the environment began in 1993 whilst studying Environmental Management at Northumbria University. Since then, I have worked with many organisations in a diverse variety of roles, giving me a wealth of expertise across the environmental and waste management sectors. Working to green the North East economy is a challenge we must all strive for and I am excited to be working with businesses across the North East to make this a reality’.
A passionate and inspiring social entrepreneur, Kate is committed to creating an ecosystem in which social entrepreneurs and social enterprises can thrive in North East England and across the world. Kate is an active trainer, facilitator and mentor to social enterprises
Kate was awarded an OBE in the 2008 New Year Honours for services to social enterprise in North East England and was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion in 2016.
Paul is a GENEE Director with extensive change management, organisational and sustainable business development experience. A former ITV executive and producer of award winning TV programmes.
Paul has a national UK profile in sustainable and low carbon behaviour change having led major sustainability projects for the Carbon Trust, the NHS and having worked extensively in the public, private and voluntary sectors. A former Principal Consultant with pwc, Paul has worked with many global clients. He is a skilled multi-stakeholder facilitator helping to establish trust between partners and efficient working systems and structures.
Ian is a well-connected networker, committed to the environment, enterprise and green innovation. He has thirty plus years of experience at European, National and Regional level around sustainable business and regenerative agriculture and food supply chains. Piano is a Non-Executive N the Governing body of Northumberland College, Chair of Ouseburn City Farm and currently chair of the North East Forestry and Woodland Advisory committee. Ian owns a company Chestnut Natural Capital which is creating a fully biodegradable tree shelter, cable tie and weed mat.
