Genee Consulting Ltd are the North East and North West Hub for Investors in the Environment (iiE), a nationally recognised environmental accreditation scheme, which helps organisations of all shapes and sizes identify, measure, and reduce their impact on the environment.
As we are an environmental consultancy and delivery partner for iiE, we want to make sure we’re walking our talk and flying the flag for SMEs, demonstrating that it is possible to prioritise sustainability and make it work for your organisation. This is why, in 2024, we undertook both Investors in the Environment accreditation, achieving Bronze, and successfully applied to become B Corp certified. We’re really pleased that on undertaking another Investors in the Environment audit a year later, we have jumped to Green accreditation!
Genee moved into our new office space at the beginning of 2023 and began developing a robust environmental management system, built on a commitment to continuous improvement. We began implementing improvements throughout the year such as the installation of both PV and EV charging points to reduce our impact where possible.
Throughout 2024, we have been able to monitor our progress against the targets we set in pursuit of our Net Zero by 2030 goal. In our 2025 audit, Genee saw reductions across many of our key resources, with a 92% reduction in our fleet travel, 15% reduction in commuter travel, and 9% reduction in waste, as well as a clear financial benefit through reduced mileage claims.
As a growing business, we’re conscious that our journey to Net Zero will not be linear, and therefore we are implementing strategies to drive reductions as much as we can, whilst being aware of the fact that increasing the number of employees will impact our resource use. We have invested in a move to a green energy tariff, as well as the installation of solar onsite, increasing the input of renewable sources of energy.
This is why the Investors in the Environment programme is suited to all shapes and sizes of organisation, as it recognises the nuances of developing an environmental management system, and more importantly, one that works for both your business and the planet. Genee has built this into our delivery of the programme across our Northern members, emphasising the importance of creating a system that is tailored to an organisation’s day to day operations, a useful tool to maximise impact, generate cost savings and drive operational efficiencies.
Genee’s Managing Director, Jo Holmes, said, “We’re so pleased to have achieved Green accreditation with Investors in the Environment. We really believe in the iiE programme and its ability to help organisations establish useful environmental management systems, and the process has made the team at Genee examine our impact and prioritise actions we can put in place to reduce it. Sustainability often takes a back seat within both large and small organisations, as other organisational pressures take over. We want to demonstrate that effective environmental management will work for you, regardless of the size of your organisation.”
