SUSTAINABILITY
AT GENEE

We are committed to walking our talk, and passionate about flying the flag for SMEs, demonstrating that it is possible to prioritise sustainability and make it work for your organisation.

As a growing business, we’re conscious that our own journey to Net Zero will not be linear, and therefore we are implementing strategies to drive reductions as much as we can, whilst being aware of the fact that increasing the number of employees will impact our resource use.

Like our members, we use the Investors in the Environment framework to measure, manage and reduce our environmental impact and are audited by the national iiE team annually.

We started our own environmental journey in 2023, achieving Bronze accreditation by 2024, and have since received Green accreditation in 2025 and 2026. This page will be used to update our stakeholders and members on our own environmental efforts.

Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This has shaped our core values as an organisation and guides the work we undertake. Click on the buttons below to download our policies and reporting:

GREEN 2026

Genee’s Managing Director, Jo Holmes, said:

“We’re so pleased to have retained our Green accreditation with Investors in the Environment. We really believe in the iiE programme and its ability to help organisations establish useful environmental management systems, and the process has made the team at Genee examine our impact and prioritise actions we can put in place to reduce it. Sustainability often takes a back seat within both large and small organisations, as other organisational pressures take over. We want to demonstrate that effective environmental management will work for you, regardless of the size of your organisation.”

  • Introduced a wormery for onsite food waste.

  • Company fleet became electric.

  • Moved the Genee newsletter and mailing list to EcoSend, a sustainable provider.

  • Planted hedgerows onsite to increase biodiversity.

  • Installed 6 bird houses and 3 bug hotels onsite.

  • Recieved B Corp certification, alongside Good Business Charter accreditation and SHINE Advanced Award.

  • Began a monthly sustainability column in Northern Insight.

At genee we want to make sure we are walking our talk. As well as Investors in the Environment accreditation, we have worked towards the following accreditations to ensure transparency and accountability when it comes to our environmental and social impact.
