We're delighted to announce that the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Annual Conference and Awards 2026 will take place at Newcastle Civic Centre on Wednesday 25th November, marking the first time the national event has been hosted outside of Peterborough.
As the Northern delivery partner for Investors in the Environment, Genee is proud to welcome organisations from across the UK to the North East to share ideas, celebrate success and explore practical solutions to some of today's biggest sustainability challenges.
Greggs Head of Sustainability Announced as Keynote Speaker
Leading this year's programme will be Paul Irwin-Rhodes, Head of Sustainability and SHE at Greggs.
Founded in Newcastle and now recognised as one of the UK's most successful household brands, Greggs has built a strong reputation for embedding sustainability into its operations and decision-making. Paul will share insights into how sustainability is being delivered across a large, fast-paced national business and how ambitious goals are translated into practical action.
His session will provide valuable inspiration for organisations of all sizes looking to strengthen their own environmental commitments.
Showcasing Sustainability Leadership in the North East
Bringing the conference to Newcastle reflects the growing recognition of the North East as a region leading on sustainability innovation, collaboration and environmental action.
Across the region, organisations are reducing carbon emissions, embracing circular economy principles, engaging communities and demonstrating that sustainability can deliver real business and social value. The conference provides an opportunity to showcase these achievements while creating connections with organisations from across the UK.
The event will feature:
Expert keynote speakers
Interactive panel discussions
Practical roundtable sessions
Real-life case studies and examples of best practice
Networking opportunities with organisations at all stages of their sustainability journey
The annual iiE Awards ceremony celebrating environmental excellence
Topics will include responding to increasing environmental reporting requirements, engaging suppliers and stakeholders, embedding sustainability into everyday operations, and sharing practical approaches that deliver measurable impact.
Celebrating Environmental Excellence
The afternoon will conclude with the iiE Awards ceremony, hosted by Sarah Mukherjee MBE, Chief Executive of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) and former BBC Environment Correspondent.

The awards recognise Investors in the Environment members that have demonstrated outstanding environmental leadership and delivered meaningful positive impact within their communities, workplaces and sectors.
We're looking forward to celebrating the iiE membership and the fantastic work they have been doing to further the sustainability agenda both internally and externally.
A Message from Genee
Jo Holmes, Managing Director at Genee, said:
"We're absolutely delighted to be bringing the iiE 2026 event to the North East for the first time. The North East is home to organisations making huge strides in sustainability, whether that's reducing carbon emissions, developing innovative solutions or embedding sustainability into everyday operations. This event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase that work, bring people together and demonstrate that practical sustainability leadership is happening right here in our region. We're also looking forward to hearing from one of the region's most iconic businesses, Greggs, to provide attendees with inspiration and practical insight into how sustainability is embedded within a national organisation."
