Genee Consulting Ltd has been awarded the SHINE Advanced Award by the North East Combined Authority, recognising our ongoing commitment to sustainability, fairness, and values-led business across the region.

Based in Gateshead, Genee Consulting Ltd is an environmental consultancy passionate about helping businesses make a positive impact – not only on the environment, but also within the communities they serve. As a B Corp certified business, we are committed to maintaining high standards of environmental and social performance, transparency, and accountability.

We are delighted to have our work recognised through the Advanced SHINE Award, which celebrates organisations demonstrating excellence in fairness, opportunity, and good work. It’s an honour to be among a cohort of outstanding North East organisations such as the MetroCentre, Northumbria University, and the Tyneside Cinema, as well as some of our Investors in the Environment (iiE) members, including Pioneering Care Partnership, Point North, Rise, Everyturn, Education Training Collective, and The Meadows.

At Genee, we believe that good business means more than achieving sustainability targets, it’s about building systems, partnerships, and cultures that support people and planet together. Our Impact Report, shared in July this year, highlights our core values:

  • Protecting the natural environment

  • Placing community at the centre

  • Supporting a just transition

  • Being a fair employer

These principles underpin every project we deliver. Collaboration sits at the heart of our work; we understand that the biggest impacts are made when we work together, share expertise, and use our collective knowledge to drive sustainable business forward.

As the North East and North West delivery partner for the Investors in the Environment (iiE) programme, Genee delivers this nationally recognised environmental accreditation scheme to organisations of all sizes and sectors. The iiE programme offers a staged approach to environmental management, helping organisations develop a system that works for them, driving down environmental impact while identifying cost savings and efficiency opportunities.

iiE provides the framework, templates, and resources organisations need to develop a robust environmental management system without starting from scratch, from environmental policies and action plans to practical tools for monitoring and reporting progress.

At Genee, we’re proud to be Green accredited through iiE ourselves. This accreditation supported both our B Corp certification and, more recently, our successful SHINE Advanced Award application, providing the evidence and structure for Beam Two of the application – Community, Net Zero and Social Responsibility – and to demonstrate our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

We recognise that sustainability is a constantly evolving landscape, and many organisations may not have a dedicated sustainability professional in-house. That’s why partnership, peer learning, and shared expertise are central to our approach. By leaning on our regional networks and communities, we can future proof our organisations and keep pace as sustainability rises up the agenda for all stakeholders.

Achieving the SHINE Advanced Award and meeting all five beams is an important milestone for us, and a proud reflection of our values in action. As a regional leader in fairness, opportunity, and good work, we’ll continue to champion sustainability, collaboration, and community across the North East and Nort West.
