THE FRAMEWORK

Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme designed to help organisations save time and money, reduce their impact on the environment, and get recognition for their progress. iiE is an accessible and proven route to help organisations get started on their sustainability journey and keep going.
Through iiE, you will understand your impact, take action, and demonstrate progress through an externally verified and credible scheme. Whether you're an SME or a large, complex multisite organisation, if you are looking to understand where you are environmentally and get on a pathway to make improvements and engage staff, we can work with you.
The iiE framework supports organisations to build and improve their Environmental Management System in a clear, practical way. It focuses on four key areas of sustainable development: Leadership & Governance, Climate Change, Nature & Natural Resources, and Pollution & Waste.

YOUR SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY
Onboarding Consultation Call
This is the first step in your accreditation journey. The call is designed to introduce you to the iiE accreditation scheme, and devise an action plan with key steps to achieve your accreditation and sustainability goals with the support of Genee's dedicated iiE Advisor.
Genee are the Northern Hub for Investors in the Environment and therefore will be supporting you through your accreditation journey. We will support your team with support calls, training and tailored advice.

Online Members Area
The iiE Members Area is an online portal designed to guide you step-by-step through your iiE accreditation journey. Each key milestone of the accreditation process, such as creating an Environmental Policy or Action Plan, is explained through short videos and supported by member-only resources and tools, including template documents and a carbon footprint calculator.
The Members Area allows flexibility in managing your accreditation journey as you can work through the key steps of accreditation at your own pace and at times that suit you.
More Online Resources
As your organisation strives to achieve its sustainability goals and continually improve its environmental performance, your organisation will explore new focus areas, such as Sustainable Procurement, Net Zero commitments or Zero Waste. To support your organisation in gaining knowledge and skills to implement effective change in these areas, iiE provides additional modules delivered by expert guest speakers, webinars, guidance documents, and templates.

Audit
When your organisation is ready, during your 12-month membership, you will undertake an audit with your Genee iiE Advisor. We also offer a pre-audit session to guide organisations through the audit process, including what to expect and how to prepare.
Audits with Genee can be carried out either online or in person and are designed to be supportive, collaborative conversations. During the audit, your iiE Advisor will explore how your organisation is managing its environmental impact across the key pillars of the iiE framework — from governance, resource management, and action planning, to environmental projects and communications.
Following the audit, we will produce a detailed report outlining your organisation’s achievements, alongside opportunities for continual improvement, helping to support your sustainability journey moving forward.
